tis the season...!

I am grateful for this amazing time of year that allows us to feel the spirit, see friends, and give service. Yesterday all of the family was able to give service to those less fortunate.
I volunteered with 10 000 Villages, a fair trade market that is open in our community a couple of times a year. I enjoyed the time I was able to spend there. I loved this little ol' lady looking around with her walker in this confined, 'lots of breakables' space. I asked her if I could help her and she looked up at me and said "Gee, I would love to sit down!" So I helped get her to an out of the way corner, find a chair, and even got her a fair trade coffee. When I brought it to her she tried to give me a tip! She wanted me to take the quarter that she had in her hand! Love it. Later she walked around some more, made a few purchases and was heading out the door. I went over to her again and asked if I could help her to her car, as the parking lot is 'over the bridge and through the woods'... she looked at me smiled and said "I'm with him" and pointed at a man who was talking on his cell phone. He rolled his eyes at me and continued his conversation. She thanked me and off I went. I had no idea that she was with her son. He was no where to be seen while she was inside looking around. Well, I guess he was there somewhere, just not helping out his Mom. She was so sweet!
The rest of the family was at the mall, wearing hockey jerseys and selling raffle tickets to raise money for a St. Joe's player struggling with leukaemia. They had good experiences as well as they met people who were generous and willing to give at this busy time of year.
We are getting ready for a busy week filled with a community carol festival on Monday that our Joint Ward choir is singing in, Tuesday is a concert for C, Wednesday is my night to video tape the school Christmas play, Thursday Rs meeting and then it will be the weekend again. The next week is looking equally as busy. Time is flying past! Before we know it Christmas will be here and gone.
I was really glad to be able to have a date night with my good husband and our good friends, Rick and Chauna, whom we have not seen for about 8 weeks. They have been super busy with football and then the accident and everything that went with that. Then he was named the NFL Youth Coach of the Year in Canada and was able to travel to the Vanier and Grey cups. We are glad that this good family was able to take some time together away from responsibilities and to enjoy the rewards for his (and her) service to the youth of our community. Chauna is the Team Mom and her service to the team over the last 'too many to count' years should be recognized as well!
Our date consisted of yummy chinese, a walk through a Costco, and a walk through the creche display that was set up at our church. It was a beautiful display of over 125 nativity sets on loan from members of the church.
Tonight we had dinner at my parents with my brother and niece. The meal was delicious and then all of the kids and my Mom helped me do some cutting and coloring for school. We worked just like Santa's elves!
We watched our famous Uncle Sandy on, Once Upon a Time. He played King Midas. We think everything Sandy does is golden! Way to go Sandy! We love you.
Testimony meeting this morning at church was beautiful and the spirit was felt. It is amazing to hear about people's trials and the faith it takes for them to be at church, to carry on through their lives without us knowing the hurt and pain they feel and to hear about their joys too. The gospel is true and I am grateful for this knowledge.
I am grateful for this time of year. I would like less hustle and bustle and more calm, but that will be here soon enough!
