whirlwind

Today was like a whirlwind. It started early (couldn't sleep) and from the time I left the house to the time I got home the day seemed to fly past. The day was filled with happy moments -seeing my old students who are now in grade three and meeting my 25 new students, who seem so sweet and, dare I say it, quiet and hard working?! It was such a great day overall that the only 'wild stories' I could tell when I got home were of the 2 girls who wiped out as we ran for our daily phys ed class (one girl got up, wiped her tears and kept on running. What a superhero! The other whined for the rest of the run as she walked with my special student and his EA. We'll have to work on her capacity! ) and of the safety lesson I stopped to give along our run route about the unsafe,  sharp pole that we should never run by. Just as I was giving this blurb, I realized we were surrounded by hornets that were coming out of the ground right by the unsafe pole! Before I could calmly move all 25 students away there was screaming. One of my little sweeties had a hornet biting her on the leg! Poor thing! So, I traded hornet bite girl for the whiner and whiner and I raced the rest of the class up the hill to the playground.
Seriously?! Compared to last year what an amazing first day! Knock on wood that this is not the honeymoon stage! Although the day was fantastic I am still exhausted! I just wanted to document the day!

C thought one class might be ok. He couldn't understand why every teacher had to read the 'rules' out of the handbook, or why kids have to act so weird, but again, he survived. I'm grateful and hope that it gets better for him. H did not have school today, but goes tomorrow. M worked hard and again, I am thankful for her support. D had a good day too. Let the year begin.  It will be over before we know it.               whirlwind.
