Dog Days

These last few days have been so hot. 30˚ C days. Hard to be inside with my class. So, we took our learning outside to the shade of the large poplar trees on the school grounds. Math class outside? Yes. We read a math picture book about patterns. As we found the patterns on each page, we then went and found a way to represent the pattern using nature. It was amazing how the students were able to show me their version of the pattern.   stick leaf stick leaf stick... brown leaf.green leaf.brown leaf. green leaf... stick stick stick rock stick stick stick rock...grass.dead leaf.rock.grass.dead leaf.rock... You get the idea. I was able to easily see who got patterns and who did not! We spent a very enjoyable 45 minutes outside on that very hot day. Hopefully the kids enjoyed it as much as I did!
