Unfortunately, we lost to them for the first time in 17 years.
Bummer!
1. We are a football family. No one actually plays but we have been involved with it since the kids were small. Dev used to help coach our beloved Warriors and so we went to games and practices as the kiddos grew. Then Dev became the 'Voice of the Warriors' and was up in the booth. I would take the kids to the games to hang with the Team Mom and others as their sons, and sometimes daughters, played.
Sometime in all this football watching, M decided that one day she would be the manager for the team. I think she was about 6 when she decided this. She told Coach that that was the plan. And that was that. She did get to be an official part of the management of the team when she went into grade 10.
She has been a great manager. She really gets along well with all of the players, she organizes them and their stuff and she looks out for them during games. She has had the opportunity to travel with the team and we have never worried about her being with all those teenage boys. (Thank you Team Mom) I think one conversation we had as parents early in grade 10 was,
Me: Are you sure she should be around 50 football players all the time?
Dev: Wouldn't it be better for her to be "one of them" so they can protect her, rather than want to date her all the time? (something like that! I hate to misquote my husband )
I agreed with that and she has enjoyed every second of her time with her team, win or lose.
And so have we.
This is her last year and new managers are coming on board to get trained to take over M's role next season. I think they will have some big shoes to fill.
Go Warriors!
2. One morning all of these birds and many others descended on the trees in our back yard.
There may have been a few seed scraps left in the feeder.
It was a windy-ish day, and as they sat there some would puff up their feathers so they looked big and fat. I think they were just relaxing and enjoying the warm sunshine.
I wonder if they can feel fall in the air. I know I can!
3. One of the nice things about attending a small k-6 school is that you become close to all the kids in your classes. C has had a nice class at Our Favorite School school since the beginning. The school is in an area that did not have a lot of children and so class sizes were small. But over time more development within the school boundaries has meant bigger classes.
This year, C's grade 6 year, there are 30 in his class. 30. Too big. Move ins have shaken this core group of kids sense of normal-ness. Havoc is reeking daily and my son's world has changed. He is sad about that. So am I.
Then, out of the blue one of his close friends, from all the way back in grade 1, came to school and said she was moving. This friend, although a girl, is quite the tomboy and likes most of the things C does, including Naruto.
Since today is her birthday, C wanted to get her something and went out and bought her some Naruto stickers. He wanted to buy her a Naruto headband like his (metal plate) but he could not find one in town. He asked me if I would help him make one for her. So, of course. He made the 'plate' and I made the band and we put it together using scrapbooking brads.
Creative right!?
This is C modeling said headband. He was pretty impressed at how it turned out.
I hope this is the last of the changes for my handsome young man for a while... except for maybe a haircut!
4. Lastly,...throughout our marriage Dev has always wanted a monkey suit. I have been on the lookout for such a suit for, well, going on 20 years. I wanted to find one and surprise him with it. I was even prepared to pay real money for one. I probably could have looked harder, looked online etc and I'm sure I could have found one but I never did....anyway,... Last night what comes into my living room?
Yep.
You guessed it.
He found one himself.
He is so happy! I am too!
