We have had a pet for a while now. A ladybug that we found hiding in our Romaine Lettuce. We put her in a waxy candle holder that happened to be kicking around after the holidays and we put in a piece of that lettuce and covered it with saran wrap. We punched a hole in the top and carefully added a few drops of water. We even gave her some apple last week. She seemed happy in her little home.
Tuesday night it was time to clean her 'cage.' As with all pets Mom was left to do the dirty work. I was in the middle of washing the cage, 'Lady' was in a big bowl under a new lettuce leaf while I dried said cage, when my dad called. We chatted as we do ( topics discussed we will save for another post) and I finished wiping out the cage. (this looks like it was a long time but it was just seconds) I went to put Lady in her clean digs but she. was. gone.
I looked everywhere I could think a winter ladybug would have the strength to fly but I could not find her :( I left her lettuce out over night thinking she might fly home, but no. I woke to find only wilted lettuce.
Ladybug, Ladybug fly away home...
I will miss her.
