lessons from oprah

My sister had an unusual name when we were growing up, I thought. She could not buy anything with her name on it and so it was always exciting when we saw something with her name on it. One thing I remember from our childhood was that an airline food service provider was CARA. So I laughed and had to take a picture of this brand when I saw it at Costco.

Oprah had a show on today about people that have the same name and how their lives are the same and how they are very different. Two Moms were on the stage whose children have the same name. One is in prison for shooting a police sergeant. The other is a college graduate, a Rhodes Scholar, and now an author. Interesting to think about how lives can be so different just because of the choices and decisions that are made. The author said he has realized how his life could have been the same as the 'other wes moore' had he not had people who believed in him and helped him make good choices.

Oprah asked: How much does your name have to do with who you are?

What if there is someone out there with my name?

Do I want to find out?

Hmmm?

I am grateful for the decisions I have made and for the people that have helped me along the way. Interesting to think about how my life would be different had I not made the decisions I have and if those around me had not had my best interests in mind as they guided me.

Who says television is not educational?!
