the office

Hello Mr. Vice Principal,

I am emailing to let you know that I am disappointed in the events that occurred this afternoon outside H's science class.

I have discussed the events with H who acknowledged that she did laugh a little as you were allowing students into the classroom.
She told me that her laughing probably did seem disrespectful and that she apologized to you in front of all of the gathered students.
She is VERY upset about getting sent to the office and about missing her entire science class.

From the sounds of things the class before H's was a problem.
From the sounds of things, H was in the wrong place at the wrong time, reacted to the way you yelled at Leticia, and from the sound of things, you reacted to her.
I appreciate that junior high students are challenging. I know that they give substitute teachers a hard time. I know that it can be frustrating when students act inappropriately.
Could it be that you were having a bad day? If so, I'm sorry about that.

H is NOT a student that gets sent to the office. I doubt that her behavior was the most inappropriate behavior that was happening in that moment.
I imagine hers was the one you saw because of where she was standing when you opened the door.
It is unfortunate that you sent her to the office even after she publicly apologized to you.
It was unfortunate that she sat in the office for an entire block of science.
It is unfortunate that as she sat waiting for you to discipline her she was disciplining herself.
It is unfortunate that as she sat waiting for you to say your piece she missed her bus.
It is unfortunate that she felt she had to walk home.
It is unfortunate that I am a concerned parent and could not let this go.

Please know that I am not one to challenge authority. I am one who will speak out when I feel there was an injustice.
H is a good girl and I think if you hadn't been having a bad day that you may not have reacted as you did.
I hope you would have accepted her apology and allowed her to attend her class.

I can guarantee from stories I have heard, that behaviors in the class on a regular day are more inappropriate than what H exhibited today.

I hope you will NOT follow up on this with H. She does not want us to talk to you about this.

'Johnnie', in the office, wanted to give H a high five today! "Don't worry," he said "I've been in here hundreds of times!"
"Yeah, no", she replied. "I'm not really proud of it!"

Thanks Johnnie, we laughed thinking about your long black punk hair giving H advice.

Thanks to the secretary who happily offered H licorice! ??????

H, you are such a good kid.
We love you.
